If you’re a mom, it’s certain that you’re the possessor of some sort of “to-do” list.
But what about a short list of things you don’t need to do.
Introducing the mom “To-Don’t List”.
1. Don’t compare yourself to other moms.
With the advent of social media and the internet; it’s easier than ever to get a “peek” into the lives of others.
And while it certainly can be beneficial to use these platforms to learn from & encourage one another; if we’re not mindful we can find ourselves in the comparison trap.
JUST. SAY.NO.
Theodore Roosevelt put it best when he said
“Comparison is the thief of joy.”
2. Don’t allow the immediate to cause you to lose sight of eternity.
Dishes, diapers, discipline & schoolwork are all part of the beautiful and sometimes messy character developing necessities of raising a family.
And sometimes it feels like it will never end.
I had an opportunity to meet the mother of one of my clients earlier this year. After that encounter, I told my client what a pleasure it was to meet her mom. And this was her response:
I’m thankful for the legacy in Christ our mom gave us…she lived it.
That really struck me. I realize that my children will remember me for many things but to be remembered for living the Gospel is what I desire most.
3. Don’t let today’s disappointments steal tomorrow’s joy.
I know what it’s like to go to bed heavy-hearted and awake the next day to the reality that the unfinished business of the heart has to be dealth with.
Your struggling learner, your struggling marriage, a wayward child & that pesky math lesson are all waiting for you.
But here’s the truth. God is present.
And while yesterday cannot be changed, today is a new day.
A new day to trust Him.
A new day to hear His voice and obey.
A new day to experience His peace and be a conduit of his character, to an agent of change and a blessing bearer.
Are you ready my friend?
Tell me which one of these you’re going to add to your “to-don’t list” today?
I loved the “To-Don’t List”, number two being my favorite. It’s a mission of mine to make our home a God first home. Instilling strong faith in my children by example, but sometimes it’s easier said than done. Thank you for your encouragement!
Wow, Jen! Thank YOU for sharing! I can totally relate to the desire to be an example of faith to my children. Isn’t it so freeing that God enables us to carry out such a big task?!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and leave a comment!
Yes! I love these! It’s so comforting to know and remember that God is present. Thank you for your encouragement.
Yes, a comfort indeed Kaycee! Thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to read & comment!
I love your second point – we can get so wrapped up in the trials of our circumstance that we lose sight of our eternal focus. All we do is for Him and for His Kingdom work. That includes dishes and diapers. The mundane sometimes hides the purpose of our work and the pleasure it brings to our Creator!
I absolutely agree!
Makes me think of Colossians 3:23-24: Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment Cathy!
Oh yes, comparison will certainly steal our joy. Thank you so much for sharing your experience to encourage us, Tiffany!
Blessings to you!
